I’m so proud of my sweet puppy who continues to grow and learn. It’s honestly hard to believe we almost lost her, she is so full of life. We enjoy her more every day. I had to share some of the latest photos of “the Bird” as we call her.
Tomato Pie
R & I re-created a recipe we loved when we ate with his dad in Lake Village. It’s called Tomato Pie and it’s like nothing we had ever tried. Robert calls it pizza-ish and quiche-esc. We made one for the memorial day pool party and got rave reviews so I thought I would share.
Ingredients
1 flour-based pie crust
4 medium fresh tomatoes
kosher salt, black pepper and fresh basil
1 cup Hellman’s mayo
1 package mexican four cheese blend
Directions:
Slice (and peel if desired) the tomatoes thinly. Mix the Hellman’s and cheese in a separate bowl. Cover the pie crust with a layer of tomatoes. Sprinkle with salt, pepper and basil. Top with a layer of the mayo/cheese mixture. Add another layer of tomatoes and repeat! It’s quite simple. When you’re ready to bake, heat the oven to 350 degrees and bake for 30 minutes. The pie needs to sit after baking for at least 10 minutes or it’s very difficult to cut.
Like a pizza, this pie makes the perfect base for all sorts of toppings. We haven’t tried it yet but we’d like to top it with asparagus, prosciutto or add some jalepenos. I would also like to re-work the pie to incorporate an olive oil/fresh mozzarella mixture instead of the mayo/cheese blend.
Here’s the pie before we baked it.
And before we dug in!

Sun-drenched weekend

Plans fell through/changed and I couldn’t be happier. In a mere 5 hours I will be settling into a four day sun-drenched weekend. I am thrilled to be at home with my bests, my beau and my puppies for 4 days that have a glittering forecast of mid-eighties and plenty of sun.

I’m banking on sitting by the pool, taking the Bird to the farmer’s market, cruising around the lake, staying out and sleeping in, walking in the park and possibly getting my dance on!

The snuggle puppy
happy weekend!
How to dress: Vintage
Who doesn’t love an amazing vintage find? You know it’s one of a kind, and that holds a lot of the appeal. I love to go to thrift shops and vintage boutiques but I’ve recently noticed that there is a wealth of fun/affordable/lovely vintage online. Perusing is almost as fun as trying on!

SATC Inspiration: You don’t have to dress like the same girl everyday

I’m getting giddy about seeing SATC 2 tomorrow, even though I’ve read some less-than-flattering reviews and I must admit that I’m not QUITE as excited as I was for the first movie. But I love it for the fashion as much as I love it for the girls. And I know the movie won’t disappoint in that arena.

This may seem redundant because I know every girl feels this way. But I’m inspired by many Carrie Bradshaw looks. One of the things I love most about the character is how she dressed for any occasion. She also often dressed with a theme, but always in a chic vs. a campy way. While she almost always looked fabulous, we also saw her dress down which makes her all the more real. More faves…
I loved everything about this outfit and I mentioned how much I love her flower brooch here.

Love, Love, Loved this outfit. This is the day Carrie meets Berger and she’s wearing a chic frock, fitted jacket and sky-high wedges.

I totes try to re-create this look. I have a crisp white blazer (thrifted) that I pair with a ratty old mickey mouse tee (gift from an old beau).

Love it when Carrie channels Jackie-O while she is dating the politician (she says, “found some vintage Halston”). It’s fun to dress for a part. You don’t have to dress like the same girl everyday.

She’s adventurous…swinging for her column, and she’s dressed to work-out. There’s no place for heels on a trapeze.

I love this. Sometimes, no matter how great you look, the wind can literally or metaphorically blow your skirt up.

Why not wear a white sun-dress/parasol combo for strolling outside in the sun?

More to love

How to dress: Music Festival
So Wakarusa is coming up in less than 10 days and we don’t even have our tent/sleeping bags/anything together. That will all come…I’m hoping, but most importantly, what does one wear to a music festival. The good thing about a hippy-dippy-trippy music fest is that it is exactly that! Free-flowing moo-moos + hat, sunglasses and piles of necklaces = totally acceptable. Here are some pics from last year.

It looks like I wore little dresses, headbands, sunglasses, flippy-floppies, earrings and my handy-dandy fanny-pack. I plan on utilizing what worked last year and incorporating a few affordable new things I will use all summer.
