Screening Process

In my new bungalow, I’m planning to use the second bedroom as a “dressing room” as posted here. For some reason, all of the closets are doorless, so I’d like to set up a screen to close off the closet and provide a little changing area. I’m envisioning Rachel McAdams in Sherlock Holmes (here is the scene). Of course, lovely mirrored screens, like those found on 1stdibs are a bit out of price range. So, I might have to settle for something less dramatic. I’ve found a few lovelies on overstock. Thoughts? The room is sortof black and red, I haven’t decided whether or not to paint but the screen would be on the black side.

1-3 & 6 are 1stdibs but the rest are overstock! I’m leaning towards the faux croc screens (4 & 12).

Violently Crushing on Violet

Violet is such a lovely hue and it doesn’t get the credit it deserves. It’s not a shade that depends on a season. In the summer it  looks glamorous with crisp whites or soft and serene when mixed with taupe. In the winter, it brightens a room and can feel romantic when paired with smoky gray or dark plum. The color of grapes, lilacs, lavender, amethyst and of course violets…it’s a very beautiful anecdote when feeling blue.

A little rosy

Red or Rosy is dreamy, when used in pops or as the focal point. Today, I’m wearing red lips with my black & white ensemble, also carrying a bright candy apple purse.

In my dressing room

As I’ve posted, I’m moving. It seems very far away (I haven’t packed) but it is actually fast approaching (two weeks). I found a sweet little bungalow in the downtown area of Fayetteville. It has a backyard and a porch swing and original wood floors. It’s rather small – the kitchen, the bathroom, the closets – but it will be just me living there with my puppies and visitors of course. Still, small bathroom & closet? What’s a fashion-conscious, jewelry-collecting, shoe-hoarder supposed to do? Light at the end of the tunnel: There is a second bedroom! I, without any hesitation, decided to make that room my dressing room. Aren’t those a lovely couple of words? It’s a small room, mind you, but I plan to make it as girly and artsy and feminine as possible. Can’t wait to post pics! For now, some inspiration…

Monday, Monday…so good to me.

Twas a good weekend. My life change that I alluded to a couple of weeks ago was actually just a diet and a move. I sat through a wedding and didn’t eat a thing (cake is my weakness). I’ve lost 10lbs! I found a new house right downtown that is accepting of my puppies, plus it’s adorable.

I’m going to see Inception tonight. My beau and I are probably going to go on vacation. I’m feeling super lucky and excited. Hope your week started off real nice.

Kinda want balayage highlights. Thoughts?

Bedroom Eyes

On the rare Monday when I feel rested and refreshed, I am reminded of how integral and productive a good night’s rest can be. Everything in my life depends on sleep: my mood, my appetite, my health. It’s vitally important to have a bed that provides you with the best sleep you can have. It’s also lovely to have a bed you love to be in.

I prefer simplicity.

I am partial to white linens and coverlets – despite the puppies.

I love lots of blankets but a very cool room.

I’m partial to feminine.

I love mosquito nets and gauze.

And, I gravitate toward fluffy and soft.

Wanted: Bar Cart

Maybe it’s moving, maybe it’s Mad Men or maybe it’s just me but I really want a bar cart. I recently found the amazing site 1stDibs, as mentioned here. I don’t yet know how it works, exactly. I think you have to become a member to purchase anything, but it might be a worthwhile endeavor as they have a wealth of really cool furnishings and almost anything else you could possibly want.

Back to bar carts, I think  you could find something at a local thrift shop and fix it up. 1stDibs has so much in the form of bar carts that it’s nearly impossible to choose a favorite.

Feathering Your Nest

I’m in the process of finding a new home. I’ve been living with a wonderful friend for THREE years now. It doesn’t seem like that long, but it has been. I feel it’s time to feather my own nest. While the process of finding an attractive rental for me & wiggles & birdie is proving to be strenuous, I cannot wait to gussy up my new place.

I’m completely inspired by the following sites for house and home decor: Canvas, Horne , 1stDibs, CBell, Graham and Green, Ruby PlazaThe Well Appointed House Wisteria & Anthropologie

Getaway Glamour

I was immediately enchanted by this tiny cottage. Who wouldn’t be?  Sandra Foster turned a Catskills hunting cabin into the romantic Victorian cottage she had always wanted, using vintage columns, flooring and wavy glass windows, and doing the carpentry herself.
