Oscars 2011: Best Dressed & Other Thoughts

Michelle Williams in Chanel. She killed it. Best Dressed winner for me.

Cate Blanchett in Givenchy Couture. Runner-up for me. So fashionable, she can wear whatever she likes.

Jennifer Lawrence in Calvin Klein. She looked like a bombshell. She wasn’t overdone. Her body looked beautiful but not overexposed.

Hailee Steinfeld in Marchesa. She’s adorable, age-appropriate and well spoken.

Other things I liked: Reese’s hair, Justin Timberlake’s Tom Ford Suit, Penelope’s post-baby boobs, Gwyneth’s white-blonde hair/white-blonde dress, Armie Hammer.

Reese Witherspoon - Oscars 2011 Red Carpet

Things I did not like: Sandra Bullock’s hair, ScarJo’s dress, Amy Adams’ necklace, Jennifer Hudson’s extremely light boobs, Kelly O’s lipstick, Guiliana’s burnished skincolor, Hathaway screaming “Woooo!” into the microphone.

The Glory of a Well Dressed Man

Mine eyes have seen the glory of a well-dressed man. This spin on the battle hymn of the republic keeps playing in my head. It’s so true. I think a lot of women might protest that they “don’t want a prissy guy”, or they are turned off by the idea of a beau that spends more than them on pants or accessories, they may even be fearful that a man’s pride in the way he looks could signify something effeminate.

Ladies, I dare to disagree. Think Justin Timberlake or Jude Law, think Robert Pattinson and Joshua Jackson, even call Dwayne Wade to mind. My bf calls Mr. Wade the best dressed man in sports. While there is a fine line between Chuck Bass’ ascots and a well-tailored three-piece suit…a guy who knows what fits, knows where to shop and (heaven-forbid) knows when he looks good is truly valuable. See these best dressed men galleries from Vogue, Esquire, GQ UK , GQ Men of Style and GQ’s most stylish.

I’m not just talking about formal-wear. I’m addressing the whole wardrobe. I always tell my boyfriend we need to “look like we’re going to the same place” and that doesn’t mean we need to match. This whole tirade actually started because I found some AMAZING online shops for men. I’ll go ahead and share those now…

Fine & Dandy has accessories and shoes of all kinds at phenomenal prices. (under $50 for all bowties and ties)

Bonobos has clothing and shoes,  all available to be tailored and very affordable.
