Well Done in Cannes

In France, people look better. I’ve been giving some scathing reviews lately, so I thought I’d point out the pretty people for once!

I’m a big Rachel McAdams fan. I love her look and I am always intrigued by her style choices. This LWD is lovely on her figure and manages not to wash her out. I am jealous that she can pull off the long-bangs-parted-in-the-middle look.

I’m sure this red number is more polarizing but I am really liking it. Her body is incredible and it’s DIFFERENT. Thank god for some variation on the Red Carpet. Do you like the visible seam going down her back? I kinda think I do…

OMG Uma! Where have you been? She looks absolutely gorgeous. Everything is completely spot-on (save maybe the slightly straggly hair). Women like Uma make me wish I was 5’10” and statuesque.

Salma & Angelina were notable.

Finally, she wasn’t at Cannes but I have to give credit where it’s due and I’m already in the process of writing this post. Rosie Victoria Secret-Transformers is a barbie doll come to life. It’s really no wonder that the menfolk voted her as the the “hottest woman in the world. I have to say, in this dress, I agree.

Met Ball Judgement

Ok. I wasn’t that impressed. In fact, I was severely disappointed.  Step it up people! All the gold (Kate, Salma, Elizabeth Banks, Claire Danes, SJP, Veronica Mars, Bar Rafaeli, Jessica Alba, Gwyneth ) was boring. I felt like anything new or modern was a rarity. All the sequins invoked prom. Read on at your own risk…it gets pretty ugly. I’m not usually this mean to my favorite models & celebs! Go here for the full coverage.

STYLE WINNERS!

Style winner: Doutzen Kroes. Simple, fresh, flattering.

Style Winner: Diane Kruger – this is probably due to my personal positive bias

Style Winner: Ashley Olsen. Gorgeous. Different than anything I’ve seen her in.

Style Winner: Freaking Sandra Lee from “Semi-homade” showed up a bunch of folks. And what was she doing there?

Style Winner: Gisele, because what else would she do with that body?

Style Winner – Amy Adams, because I rarely like what she wears and I like this.

Style Winners: Angela Lindvall & Karlie Kloss – this is gold done well (on breathing mannequins)

Style Winner: Hilary Rhoda – classic, chic, short – white done right.

STYLE LOSERS!!!

Barbara Walters – you deserve to be spanked for this

Taylor Swift – your makeup looks fug and you’re supposed to be a Cover Girl. The only thing worse than the makeup is the dress/hair.

Emma Stone, you are so pretty girl! Remember what you wore to the golden globes? This atrocity made me forget.

Alexa Chung – I grow weary of you and your quirkiness

I literally made the exact same face as Serena when I saw this photo

Ashley Greene- I’ve seen that dress before but your hair looks nice.

GAAAAH Nicole Richie, the hair! the sleeve cut-outs! eeek

Lucy Liu – Career damaging

Sarah Burton, are you freaking kidding? I’m trying to conjur up some kind of saying like “if you can’t do, teach” but I don’t think it works in this situation.

Fergie – one of the ugliest dresses I’ve ever seen. It also looks like you have jaundice. You might want to have that checked out.

Eva Mendes – terrible.

Ginnifer Goodwin – nice try

Michelle – you rarely do wrong in my eyes. But this dress makes your arms look big. We all know your arms aren’t big.

Penelope – boring, boring, boring

Rashida Jones – ew

It’s hard to say “hanous” on the same line as Miranda Kerr but somehow it works in this sitch.

Demi Moore wore a fascinator! She’s gotta get props for that.

Is that feather pouf attached to ERW somehow? UPDATE: I’ve realized it’s not attached to ERW, but is attached to Florence Welch. ERW – you stay in style losers for standing close to Flo Welch (I still love your music Flo & the machine but let’s keep fashion and friendship separate, k?)

I literally almost threw up in my mouth when I saw this creation on Carolyn Murphy, who is typically so effortlessly lovely

Ri-Ri, I’m kindof over you looking naked but not really being naked, not to mention the red hair. Find a new schtick.

That’s all I got folks! How did you feel about the lack of fashion on this most fashionable night?

Oscars 2011: Best Dressed & Other Thoughts

Michelle Williams in Chanel. She killed it. Best Dressed winner for me.

Cate Blanchett in Givenchy Couture. Runner-up for me. So fashionable, she can wear whatever she likes.

Jennifer Lawrence in Calvin Klein. She looked like a bombshell. She wasn’t overdone. Her body looked beautiful but not overexposed.

Hailee Steinfeld in Marchesa. She’s adorable, age-appropriate and well spoken.

Other things I liked: Reese’s hair, Justin Timberlake’s Tom Ford Suit, Penelope’s post-baby boobs, Gwyneth’s white-blonde hair/white-blonde dress, Armie Hammer.

Reese Witherspoon - Oscars 2011 Red Carpet

Things I did not like: Sandra Bullock’s hair, ScarJo’s dress, Amy Adams’ necklace, Jennifer Hudson’s extremely light boobs, Kelly O’s lipstick, Guiliana’s burnished skincolor, Hathaway screaming “Woooo!” into the microphone.

Emma Stone or Claire Danes? Any takers?

And a peek at the back…wowsa!

Best Dressed SAG: Sofia Vergara

Best: Sofia Vergara After a rocky red carpet start one year ago, Sofia Vergara has been nearly flawless on a string of carpets, culminating in this best yet blue Cavalli.

People may disagree but I thought she looked happy and comfortable and curvy. I am a huge fan of Modern Family and she seems like a genuinely nice and funny woman. Ahhh.

Emma Stone

OMG I could hardly recognize Emma Stone at the Golden Globes. I didn’t realize how long and lean she was. Has she lost a ton of weight? I also really liked her as a blonde. Also, those of you who read this blog often know how partial I am to an open back. Lovely. I’m very much looking forward to seeing her performance in “The Help” as well.

Style Crush: Gemma Arterton

I’ve had serious affection for Gemma since I saw her in the BBC production of Tess of the D’Urbervilles. I think she’s lovely and I agree with most of her style choices. She also has a versatile look.
