Wonderful Weekend

Looking forward to a lovely weekend. We’re going to another wedding (in Memphis, this time) and I’m craving time at home but I’m looking forward to dressing up, dining out, dancing and cool, crisp air-conditioning.

I got a romper yesterday! It’s the first one I’ve actually been able to purchase/wear. I’ve always loved the idea of a romper but have not been able to find the right fit. Thankfully, Target has given me an excuse to use the word “playsuit”.

Feeling Dreamy

“you know you’re in love when you can’t fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams”
dr. seuss

I had a lovely weekend with my sweetheart. We realized we are officially old when we left the music festival early. I do believe we had heat exhaustion, but it was nice that we were on the same page…even if it was a rather lame one. Sometimes one only needs a single night away to realize the comforts of air conditioning and a clean bed or kisses from puppies and take-out.

Today it’s rainy. And it sounds like this outside…

I’m feeling dreamy and lethargic after spending 1/2 the weekend in extreme heat and the other 1/2 in extreme relaxation mode.

This would be nice…

As would this…

And wouldn’t we all love to have an office like this to get creative in? We are shifting cubes in my office and I am not looking forward to it. I try to be a person that embraces change, but sometimes it truly is hard, isn’t it? Even with the little things that aren’t of much importance…like where you sit or whom you sit by.

Feelings in Photos Friday

On the cusp of a weekend with my sweet, sweet beau in extremely warm weather listening to music incessantly.

I hope you enjoy this first weekend in June (one of the best months, in my opinion) no matter what you’re doing.

Tomato Pie

R & I re-created a recipe we loved when we ate with his dad in Lake Village. It’s called Tomato Pie and it’s like nothing we had ever tried. Robert calls it pizza-ish and quiche-esc. We made one for the memorial day pool party and got rave reviews so I thought I would share.

Ingredients

1 flour-based pie crust

4 medium fresh tomatoes

kosher salt, black pepper and fresh basil

1 cup Hellman’s mayo

1 package mexican four cheese blend

Directions:

Slice (and peel if desired) the tomatoes thinly. Mix the Hellman’s and cheese in a separate bowl. Cover the pie crust with a layer of tomatoes. Sprinkle with salt, pepper and basil. Top with a layer of the mayo/cheese mixture. Add another layer of tomatoes and repeat! It’s quite simple. When you’re ready to bake, heat the oven to 350 degrees and bake for 30 minutes. The pie needs to sit after baking for at least 10 minutes or it’s very difficult to cut.

Like a pizza, this pie makes the perfect base for all sorts of toppings. We haven’t tried it yet but we’d like to top it with asparagus, prosciutto or add some jalepenos. I would also like to re-work the pie to incorporate an olive oil/fresh mozzarella mixture instead of the mayo/cheese blend.

Here’s the pie before we baked it.

Sun-drenched weekend

Plans fell through/changed and I couldn’t be happier. In a mere 5 hours I will be settling into a four day sun-drenched weekend. I am thrilled to be at home with my bests, my beau and my puppies for 4 days that have a glittering forecast of mid-eighties and plenty of sun.

I’m banking on sitting by the pool, taking the Bird to the farmer’s market, cruising around the lake, staying out and sleeping in, walking in the park and possibly getting my dance on!

How to dress: Music Festival

So Wakarusa is coming up in less than 10 days and we don’t even have our tent/sleeping bags/anything together. That will all come…I’m hoping, but most importantly, what does one wear to a music festival. The good thing about a hippy-dippy-trippy music fest is that it is exactly that! Free-flowing moo-moos + hat, sunglasses and piles of necklaces = totally acceptable. Here are some pics from last year.

It looks like I wore little dresses, headbands, sunglasses, flippy-floppies, earrings and my handy-dandy fanny-pack. I plan on utilizing what worked last year and incorporating a few affordable new things I will use all summer.

Float trip update

We didn’t tip once! R & I did surprisingly well under pressure/high water on the Mulberry this weekend (mentioned here). Not surprising to most who know him as the picture you see when you look up “patient” in the dictionary. It was a fabulous time had by all and although my suspicion that I am not ready for swimsuit-season was confirmed, I’m so pleased it’s summer.

Goin’ Floatin’

This weekend I’m off for my first float trip of 2010. It has the makings of an epic weekend so far. 10 of my best friends, a fully-functional cabin in rural Arkansas on the Mulberry river. The forecast is calling for 90 degrees and sun. Needless to say we’re pretty pumped. Here are a few glimpses of what has happened in the past…

So what does one bring on a float trip? Allow me to illuminate my packing list:

Koozie necklace, sunglasses with flame croakies, bikini, flip-flops, rain boots, plenty of alcoholic bevs, sunscreen, bug spray and these beauties…

Happy weekend!

More from the beautiful backyard wedding

I must share these photos from the wedding in the delta, mentioned here and here. It was lovely and fun and seemed so effortless, although I’m sure it wasn’t! It all took place on Lake Chicot in Robert’s hometown of Lake Village. There are so many dying towns in South Arkansas but this doesn’t feel like one of them. The people are friendly, they know how to throw a party and they eat hella good.
