Thrifting

I love shopping at thrift and vintage stores. There’s something so green and sustainable about reusing and making the old new again. I also enjoy the process of picking through the inventory and trying on (I realize not everyone does). Plus it’s a great way to experiment with trends without breaking the bank, since nearly everything that’s in now has been in before. One of my favorite things about shopping at a thrift shop, versus a vintage shop, is that they often don’t know the brands that have been donated. They just line-price everything, denim is denim etc. That’s where we benefit. For example, I got a vintage Oscar de la Renta blouse last night at Potter’s house thrift store for $2.92. I think one of the problems we have when shopping is we can’t visualize how an article of clothing will transform once we have it on, so we pass it by. You have to have an open mind and a little bit of time to find the diamonds in the rough, if you will. Sometimes I will try on 30 things to only find 3 that work. But when it works and it’s cheap, it’s so worth the extra time.

I also love this editorial set in a chic vintage shop. Enjoy!

Miss Piggy

Christina Aguilera

For full disclosure, I must admit that I’ve never, ever, ever been a fan of Ms. Aguilera. I don’t like her voice (although I will admit she is talented), I don’t like her style, I don’t like her attitude, I don’t like her flimsy blonde hair. I’ve said before that she reminds me of a blonde Snooki but I really think the most apt comparison is to the lovable Muppets’ character: Miss Piggy. Do you agree? Too harsh?

News & Thanks

Hello friends! I realized today that my blog is a little over two years old. I missed our birthday, it was in March (3/18). It’s hard to believe I have been posting that long. I’ve really come to love the blog and all the people I’ve reconnected with because of it. I started a blog because I believe it’s so important to hone in on what inspires you. It helps you stay enthusiastic and hopeful. Plus, you always feel inspired!

Today the blog officially transfered over to thewindowshopper.org. If you look for prettypay you will still find me so no worries! Thank you all for the continued support, the kind words and most of all, the friendship. If you’d like a peak back at one of my early posts, click here.

Love,

Payton

I wore a dress with a train.

What I wore: Dress – TJ Maxx, Blazer – Vintage (also seen here), Heels – Michael Antonio

Oh hello…

Here I am, casually looking casual in the gym. Not working out but rather, using the mirrors to take pics of my outfit. I wore a dress from TJ Maxx that I’m slightly obsessed with. It’s a jersey/stretchy fabric in a tawny color. It’s totally comfy and it has this amazing train. I wear it way too often. The heels are also one of my favorite pairs. I picked them up at Shoe-nami on Magazine in New Orleans for like $12. I’m also working a bit of a tan. I laid out in my backyard for probably 30 minutes on Saturday and looked like a lobster for it. Thankfully, it’s finally died down a bit.

I will soon be posting pictures of the new digs!

At Home with The Man Repeller

Leandra Medine (The Man Repeller). Love her, love her sharp tongue, love her blog, love all the recognition she’s getting and now am completely jealous of her clothes/shoes/bags/abode.

The WORST of the Derby hats

If you read this blog often, you know I have an affinity for hats. I love hats and next to the royal wedding, the Kentucky Derby is the mecca of big hats. However, I only spotted B-list celebs and only one hit the mark.

LOSERS

I honestly can’t believe people are a) still inviting KG to parties or b) people are still photographing her or c) websites are still publishing her photos.

Maria – I like your fascinator but the whole look is too much. It’s not the royal wedding, sis.

Oh no…Miranda Lambert – everything you have on looks like it came from a clearance rack at the buckle. I could have allowed it if you had worn cute heels, but the boots – ick!

Aubrey O’Day – not as bad as you could have been, I’ll give you that…

Oh, spoke too soon!  Aubs did a lil outfit change! Oh my…

Erin Andrews, this is just foul. That hat I could deal with…maybe paired with a LBD? But the pants? Girl you are thin! These make you look like Kirstie Alley! And the shoes…there is NO EXCUSE.

Salt & Pepa….

Vicki Gunvalson, if Miranda L. got her “getup” at the Buckle, you got yours at Target.

Jordin Sparks, I don’t so much have beef with your hat as I do your leggings. WTF. It is the derby.

WINNERS

There really was a lack of appropriately dressed peeps at this shindig. In fact I saw 2 that I appreciated. One was  Marisa Miller. First of all, it’s really hard to look bad with that body. Secondly, although I don’t particularly love the monochromatic look in beige, I do like her Great Gatsby-ish, 1920’s take on Derby Day.

Well done, Kate Walsh
