Visions of Vacation

With no vacation in sight (honeymoon? too far away) and two feet of snow on the ground, indulge me as I daydream.

NYC/The Dress

NYC was wonderful. It was fabulous to be with friends and family and I felt very spoiled. I’m a bit exhausted today but so thrilled that I found the dress!

A few pictures from the trip…

The Matchbook Girl

I am very intrigued by the idea of online magazines. First Lonny then Rue and now High Gloss and Matchbook. A few of my favorite bloggers have banded together to publish online. I LOVE that you can actually click on the things you love and go straight to them through the interwebs. And while I will always love physically holding and reading and keeping a favorite magazine, the online versions are very new and fun.

I very much enjoyed reading through Matchbook and I loved the “type of girl”they are reaching out to, I encourage you to look through any and all of them!

A Dreamy Wall of Shoes

<span class='fancyPhotoDesc'>My husband is an architect, and when we moved into our apartment my one request was to have a wall for my shoes. He designed it as individual cubbies, so it feels more like a display case for little works of art than a storage unit. The only problem is, I've already outgrown it!</span><span class='fancyPhotoName'>Shoes, Various Designers</span>

When I moved into my new house, this is exactly what I had in mind. Instead, I got this:

(Why, yes…it is slanted)

Not quite the same…but you get the idea. I’m hoping in the next house I will get more of a shoe wall like Jane Keltner De Valle’s via The Coveted. More below…

<span class='fancyPhotoDesc'>I’m lucky enough to be able to borrow dresses from designers for most events, so I actually don’t own a lot of formal dresses. But these are two exceptions to the rule. You can’t go wrong with a Lanvin or Chanel dress!</span><span class='fancyPhotoName'>Dresses, Lanvin, fall 2004; Chanel</span><span class='fancyPhotoDesc'>This is from the good old days when Chanel used to have sample sales!! I was an intern at W Magazine when I bought it. It’s still as chic today as it was then. There's something so special about a Chanel dress. It's the kind of piece you pass on to the next generation!</span><span class='fancyPhotoName'>Dress, Chanel</span><span class='fancyPhotoDesc'>This is from one of Thakoon’s early collections, but I would still wear it today. I love that even though it’s a floor-length dress, there’s a certain cool ease to it. The lightness of the fabric and the side cutouts, together with the abstracted diamond print, give it a completely fresh, modern feel.</span><span class='fancyPhotoName'>Dress, Thakoon spring 2006</span>

Dripping in Baubles

Photobucket

I’m feeling pangs of envy as I look at these images. Sometimes less is more and sometimes more really is more. Maybe not everyday, but occasionally I do want to pile on all of the gems and jewels I love. Don’t you?

What I’m Wearing Today

It’s chilly out so we must do something to brighten our mood. I love this little shift which can be integrated into all seasons. I don’t know about you but I cannot wait for warmer weather.

A Checklist for your Closet

Things every girl needs…and won’t regret buying.

I think I might have to add high waisted trousers, a boyfriend button-down and edgy platforms. And leggings, anyone?

Inside Joanna Hillman’s Closet

Joanna Hillman, the Market Editor at Harper’s Bazaar is a sartorial favorite and can be spotted in street style photographs all around. The Coveted has started peeking into fashion-people’s closets and I very much enjoyed seeing Joanna’s.

They made cool clothes that were so wearable and timeless. RIP.</span><span class='fancyPhotoName'>All by Phi</span><span class='fancyPhotoDesc'>I clearly had leopard fever this year!</span><span class='fancyPhotoName'>Blouse, Sonia Rykiel; Bag, Mulberry; Shoes, Topshop London</span><span class='fancyPhotoDesc'>I'm a fan of chunky heels, you will rarely find me in a super skinny stiletto. I like the height of these boots and the cheeky nod Derek made to a cowboy boot.</span><span class='fancyPhotoName'>Boots, Derek Lam</span><span class='fancyPhotoDesc'>I love adding a little sparkle to a daytime look, something that catches the light.</span><span class='fancyPhotoName'>Earrings, J.Crew; Earrings, Lulu Frost</span><span class='fancyPhotoDesc'>This Chanel bag is the ultimate classic accessory and is a part of my 'grab in case of a fire' list. It goes from day to night and is fab at every age. I plan to wear well through my 80's if I'm still around!</span><span class='fancyPhotoName'>Boot and coat, Derek Lam; Bag, Chanel</span><span class='fancyPhotoDesc'>His jewelry tree has definitely grown over the years. I am soon going to need to have a forest of these trees if I keep up the way I have been collecting jewelry!</span><span class='fancyPhotoName'>Jewelry Tree, Various Designers</span><span class='fancyPhotoDesc'>This is where my purse sleeps every night</span><span class='fancyPhotoName'>Purse, Mulberry</span><span class='fancyPhotoDesc'>I enjoy playing with color in my wardrobe and even neons don't scare me, although I wouldn't wear these all together!! I would be bored to death wearing all black everyday. I believe color affects our moods and wearing fun, vibrant colors definitely makes me feel a little more cheery.</span><span class='fancyPhotoName'>Bag, Proenza Schouler; Necklace, Givenchy; Dress, Lanvin x H&M</span><span class='fancyPhotoName'>Shoes, Miu Miu</span><span class='fancyPhotoDesc'>I wore it during last FW and one of its incredible green teeth fell off, but luckily I found it in one of my purses that the girls wanted to shoot for the site, talk about serendipitous!!</span><span class='fancyPhotoName'>Necklace, Mawi</span><span class='fancyPhotoDesc'>I would love to make wallpaper out of these prints, they are just so darn pretty. I scoop up interesting prints anytime I can because I know how hard a really good print is to find.</span><span class='fancyPhotoName'>Thakoon; Karen Walker; Lyn Devon</span><span class='fancyPhotoDesc'>These shoes are really like jewelry for your feet! I always get funny looks from people on the streets wearing these sandals. I can almost hear them saying, 'Really? Seriously??!' but I love that! This Eddie bracelet is a staple of mine. I basically wear it everyday and people are so drawn to it and always ask me who designed it. Eddie is the king of designing for the downtown cool set.</span><span class='fancyPhotoName'>Sandals, Miu Miu; Bracelet, Eddie Borgo</span>
