Fabulously Feminine New Orleans Home

In honor of my trip to New Orleans this weekend (leaving tonight!) I thought I’d share this decadent, beautiful home of “a Southern-born media executive in New York who wears clothes with great silhouettes and really fun modern jewelry from Africa or France. She collects contemporary photographs and art. Her husband is a food and wine writer, and at the drop of a hat they’ll give a party for 60 to 70.” from House Beautiful. I’m drooling. That’s who I want to be.

The homeowner shares, “I think I dreamed the house. When you bump into something that’s in your mind’s eye, you recognize it. What’s the French term? Coup de foudre— love at first sight. The house is like a character in our lives. In New York, our home is a condo. It’s mostly where we retreat to plug in our batteries. But this is a real house, big enough to gather all our friends into, with a dining room table sturdy enough to hold a suckling pig. This is so Southern — in my walled courtyard, I have my late grandmother’s gardenias planted. We brought them over from Alabama, stem by stem, with the roots in little jars of water. To sit near them reading the newspaper in my pajamas while listening to the New Orleans soundtrack of crickets, steamboat whistles, children playing, cathedral bells, and the pie lady selling pies — it’s divine.” Divinity indeed.

So Inspired.

I cannot get enough of Pinterest these days. The amount of inspiration is almost overwhelming. Here are a few things I’ve pinned.

I Wore Suspenders

What I’m wearing: glasses – Ultra Studios, suspenders – Claire’s, long sleeved white tee – Forever 21, high waist black pants – New York & Co, blazer – vintage, heels – Forever 21, flower – Forever 21

Sorry I’m not sorry for my GPOY. But I thought you guys should know that they sell suspenders at Claire’s in your local mall and they are worth every penny of the $8.00 I spend on them. They are total outfit-transformers. You could literally wear an outfit one day and wear the exact same thing the next day (add suspenders) and no one would notice you hadn’t changed! No guarantee on that one.

Do you grow tired of my bathroom mirror photos at my corporate office? I hope not because they shall continue…

My Wedding Inspirations

Today is April 27th. That means our wedding is exactly four months away. I hyperventilated a bit when I realized. In honor of that and of the royal wedding (of course) I thought I’d share some of my wedding inspirations. If Kate Middleton forsakes Queen Victoria’s jewels for flowers in her hair I will never forgive her.

Music + Fashion

Kate Bosworth Coachella Style 2011

With summer upon us, music festival season has arrived! This year I won’t be going to any sleep away festivals (Wakarusa, I’ll miss you!) but I will be attending several concerts. Concerts and festivals are a great place to pull out (pull off) some of the stuff you love but consider too “out there” for daily wear. Case in point: feathers, onesies, boy shorts as pants, anything sheer, jewelry overload, headgear and bold color combos. The best places to find shop these looks would definitely be thrift stores. If you’re local, I recommend Grey Dog, Cheap Thrills, The Daisy Exchange & The Samaritan Shop. As I write this, I realize I should put together a list of local thrift stores so keep a look out for that in a future post.

You can see some of the most stylish people in their warm-weather bohemian best at these events. Let’s see how they do it…

Happy (April) Weekend

Flowers are blooming and the weather is warmer.  Have a cocktail. Go on a date. Wear a backless dress. Sleep in. Walk the dogs. Go to a party. Take a bath. Do whatever you want and enjoy every second. xo
