This is my 1000th post! I’m thrilled about this milestone. I’m exceedingly grateful for the encouragement, kind words and new friendships I’ve received through The Window Shopper. I wanted to make this 1000th post special for me and for those of you reading…so I called in a few favors. Mallory shot my wedding and she is extremely talented so I was overjoyed when she consented to take a few pictures of me outside of my office’s bathroom. Mallory introduced me to Mollie,  an incredible makeup artist that got me camera-ready.
We did several different looks and this was one of my favorites (more to come!). The coral blazer is actually part of a two piece set, it goes with a dress that has a really cool cutout back that I’m looking forward to wearing this summer. The pink sequin collar was a wedding gift from my friends at Cheap Thrills. It really is amazing to live in a smaller town where you can forge relationships with the people at the stores you love. When I approached Cheap Thrills and Grey Dog about collaborating with me on a giveaway they were excited, helpful and very generous.

GIVEAWAY

Just in time for spring, I’m giving away three lovely vintage items: a beaded flower necklace with earrings (from Cheap Thrills) and an 80’s cream clutch (from Grey Dog). All you have to do is like The Window Shopper on Facebook and comment below. Tell me in the comments about your favorite vintage find. I will announce the winner next Wedesday, 3/21.

What I Wore: Menswear, Leopard & Nautical – Oh my!

what I wore: trench – marvin richards, trousers – ralph lauren (seen here, here), blouse – old navy, bowtie – little boy’s at target, necklace – kate spade, platforms – steve madden, jewels – gifts, vintage, charm & chain, bcbg

This outfit is the result of having entirely too much time to get ready. Yesterday morning I woke up at 4am and could not go back to sleep (rare occurrence). So I got up, showered and spent two hours leisurely getting ready, as there was nothing else to do. I like this outfit even though it’s a lot going on. I find that I like looks that either say a lot or say next to nothing. Sometimes you need 2 necklaces, 3 bangles and 6 rings to feel dressed, sometimes it feels like the fewer the better. I’ve been wearing a lot of blue lately. I think it’s nice to do a really feminine hair style with such a tailored look. I’m really excited about an upcoming collaboration. More details soon!

What I Wore: Baby Blue

what I wore: dress – vintage parade from cheap thrills, necklace – 30s vintage (a present from my hubby) found @ mae’s, platforms – go jane *please excuse the (clean) laundry in the background…it was late

Last night I went to the Shop Local night of the inaugural Northwest Arkansas Fashion Week. I have to say, I was really impressed and am now so excited about Friday night when some of my favorite boutiques will be showing. Obviously we don’t have as many designers as a big city would, so the shows are all philanthropic and benefit local charities. I’m really proud of the great work that went into making this event happen and I can’t wait to see how it takes off!
The two beauties in the picture have blogs as well! Check out http://lovecity.tumblr.com/ and http://renegadegarden.com/

What I Wore: Black on Black

what I wore: dress – tj maxx, jacket – bcbg, heels – gianni bini, glasses – shop ultra, watch – bcbg, bangle – kate spade, earrings – forever 21

This outfit was a random idea I had before going to bed the night before. I thought – why don’t I tie a sash around the neck of a button down top or dress? So, I did and for once, it worked!

What I Wore: The Marine Layer

what I wore: dress – vintage via cheap thrills, platforms – go jane, earrings – charm & chain
This lovely little number can be worn many ways thanks to the sash that can be wrapped inside or out. I love a good kaftan!

What I Wore: Pumped Up Kicks

what I wore: dress – vintage from grey dog (also seen here), shoes – go jane
So…I’ve been really into my new orange shoes from gojane. I love the idea of a girly dress and sneakers. There’s nothing more comfortable.

What I Wore: Breaking the Rules

what I wore: dress – vintage paper white from cheap thrills, slip – target, platforms – forever 21
I’ve never adhered to the no white after labor day rules. No, maybe I wouldn’t wear a strapless white shift with sandals in the snow, but that’s really about practicality and not about following set guidelines. On the first day of March, the forecast was for 74 degrees. I am a self-proclaimed sun worshiping summer lover and I took the opportunity to wear a white lattice dress. I knew the minute my eyes locked on this dress that it would have to be mine. You know that moment when you have the internal argument with yourself about how much money you can possibly let yourself spend? Luckily it was $18. And I have to tell you this is the very best silhouette for ANY WOMAN. Ladylike & feminine, it accentuates the waist, shows the legs and covers the arms. PERFECTION.

What I Wore: Sunny Day

what I wore: dress – forever 21 (similar here), earrings – kate spade, rings – vintage and mae’s heirlooms, platforms – steve madden,, lips – covergirl lip perfection in fairytale
I loved this dress the second I saw it. I loved the weather (in January) that allowed me to wear it even more.

Yummy Spring Pasta

Spring Pasta

I saw this recipe on 101 Cookbooks and immediately decided to make it last night. I changed a few things and it turned out so yummy/easy!

Spring Pasta Recipe

I used angel hair but thin, egg noodles, spaghetti, or fettuccine would all work as well.

8 ounces / 225 g cooked, leftover pasta
3 eggs
fine grain sea salt
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 tablespoons unsalted butter

3 big handfuls of sliced asparagus, and/or pea shoots, or tiny broccoli trees, or shredded greens, or green beans, or spinach – anything quick cooking and fresh

chopped avocado
chopped herbs

Optional: 1 tablespoon cream, Parmesan cheese, Breadcrumbs

Use your fingers to fluff up the leftover pasta a bit, so its not clumpy or stuck together. Set aside.

In a small bowl crack the eggs and beat them really well with a pinch of salt.

In a big skillet melt the oil and butter over medium high heat. If you’re using a vegetable that might take longer to cook than others, add those to the pan – for example, asparagus or broccoli. Add a couple pinches of salt, stir, cover, and cook for a couple minutes. Until the vegetables are bright, and just cooked. Now stir in anything that just needs a quick flash of cooking – in this case pea greens, but chopped greens would go in at this point if you’re using those. Stir, and cook just until tender – a minute or so. Pull about 1/3 of the vegetables out of the pan and set them aside.

Now, add the pasta to the skillet, and toss well. Once the pasta is hot, turn down the heat, wait a moment, then quickly stir in the eggs (optional – stir in cream, pasta water). Stir well, then cover the pan, remove from heat, and let everything sit for a minute. Uncover, give everything another toss, the egg should be cooked through. Taste, and adjust the seasoning before dividing between two plates. Top with the reserved vegetables, and some chopped avocado (optional – top with breadcrumbs and parmesan cheese).

Serves 3.

Prep time: 5 min – Cook time: 5 min

Here’s how mine turned out:

Spring Beauty

It’s a color revival! I’m obsessing over these brights, I especially want to try the orange shadow and super pink lips.
