A Taste of NOLA

It’s practically a blizzard here. So, I decided to make a taste of New Orleans and Summer. Shrimp Remoulade. It was super-easy and turned out really well.

1.5 cup mayo

1/2 cup creole mustard

1 tbsp worchestershire

1 tsp hot pepper sauce

1/2 cup diced green onions

1/4 cup diced celery

2 tbsp minced garlic

1/4 cup chopped parsley

1/2 tbsp lemon juice

Salt and Pepper to taste

3 dozen shrimp

Combine and place wet ingredients in the refrigerator overnight. Add to shrimp before serving. Serves 6.

A Dreamy Wall of Shoes

<span class='fancyPhotoDesc'>My husband is an architect, and when we moved into our apartment my one request was to have a wall for my shoes. He designed it as individual cubbies, so it feels more like a display case for little works of art than a storage unit. The only problem is, I've already outgrown it!</span><span class='fancyPhotoName'>Shoes, Various Designers</span>

When I moved into my new house, this is exactly what I had in mind. Instead, I got this:

(Why, yes…it is slanted)

Not quite the same…but you get the idea. I’m hoping in the next house I will get more of a shoe wall like Jane Keltner De Valle’s via The Coveted. More below…

<span class='fancyPhotoDesc'>I’m lucky enough to be able to borrow dresses from designers for most events, so I actually don’t own a lot of formal dresses. But these are two exceptions to the rule. You can’t go wrong with a Lanvin or Chanel dress!</span><span class='fancyPhotoName'>Dresses, Lanvin, fall 2004; Chanel</span><span class='fancyPhotoDesc'>This is from the good old days when Chanel used to have sample sales!! I was an intern at W Magazine when I bought it. It’s still as chic today as it was then. There's something so special about a Chanel dress. It's the kind of piece you pass on to the next generation!</span><span class='fancyPhotoName'>Dress, Chanel</span><span class='fancyPhotoDesc'>This is from one of Thakoon’s early collections, but I would still wear it today. I love that even though it’s a floor-length dress, there’s a certain cool ease to it. The lightness of the fabric and the side cutouts, together with the abstracted diamond print, give it a completely fresh, modern feel.</span><span class='fancyPhotoName'>Dress, Thakoon spring 2006</span>

Dripping in Baubles

I’m feeling pangs of envy as I look at these images. Sometimes less is more and sometimes more really is more. Maybe not everyday, but occasionally I do want to pile on all of the gems and jewels I love. Don’t you?

eternal-summer

This past Saturday was warm and sunny and such a nice reprieve from the chill that is far from over. With yet another Winter storm on the way, I am thinking ever more about Summer and savoring that lovely time whether we are there in our minds or in reality.

Best Dressed SAG: Sofia Vergara

Best: Sofia Vergara After a rocky red carpet start one year ago, Sofia Vergara has been nearly flawless on a string of carpets, culminating in this best yet blue Cavalli.

People may disagree but I thought she looked happy and comfortable and curvy. I am a huge fan of Modern Family and she seems like a genuinely nice and funny woman. Ahhh.
